Mental Yoga: A Six-Step Guide To Making Time For The Activities You Love

July 28, 2014 by Clean N Dry Today

Mental Yoga: a Six-Step Guide to Making Time for the Activities You LoveEverybody struggles with not having enough time. This is such a common issue that a lot of people have given up even trying to make more time for themselves.

However, there are certain methods you can use to make time for things you want to do.

1)  Identify All The Time Wasters

Everyone has time wasters. What are these? They’re just things people do that don’t contribute to their lives at all: they don’t help them relax, but they also don’t help them get things done.

Watching TV or surfing the internet are great examples of time wasters. These things can indeed help you relax. However, if you go overboard with them, you’ll find that all they do is consume your time.

Pay close attention to these things, and once you’ve identified them, make a conscious effort to cut them out. This will free up time for you.

2)  Start Scheduling Your Time

This works great for some, but not for others. Give it a try to find out if it helps you. After getting rid of time wasters, you should start planning out your time.

By doing this, you might find more time wasters that you didn’t know about before. Additionally, it will help you figure out exactly which things you should spend more time on than others.

3)  Group Activities Together

Regardless of whether scheduling works for you or not, you should think about which activities go together. Why? This will help you waste less time.

For example, when it comes to errands, running as many as possible on the same day is a better idea than spreading them out. You’ll spend less time going back and forth this way, thus freeing up time.

4) Take A Close Look At Your Routine

Many people have routines that they’ve fallen into. On occasions, these routines are not very time-efficient. If this is your case, start thinking of changing up your routine.

5) Saying ‘No’ Is Not Always Bad

If you feel obliged to constantly help out people in your life, maybe it’s time to stop. Helping others is great from time to time, but when it’s taking a toll on your life, it’s not all that good.

If you have an already-crowded schedule, and you just can’t seem to find time for yourself, think about cutting back on favors for others. Remember that you have a life you need to take care of first, before you can start helping others.

6) Get Distractions Out Of The Way

After having planned your activities carefully, ensure that you spend time doing what you actually planned on doing. If you planned to study, for example, but end up listening to music, it’s a sign that you need to change something.

Distractions are all around, so cutting out as many as possible will help keep on track.

Putting thought into your schedule will help you get more time to spend doing things you love. Whether that’s reading, meditating, running, or cooking, if you like doing it, it’s important. Your schedule should allow you the time you need to do the things you love.

Lace Up Your Hiking Boots and Get in Touch with Your Natural Side with These Easy Hiking Tips

July 23, 2014 by Clean N Dry Today

Lace Up Your Hiking Boots and Get in Touch with Your Natural Side with These Easy Hiking TipsHiking is a relaxing, leisurely activity that one can do alone, or in a group with friends. Even being such a simple sport, there are some tips and tricks concerning hiking that any beginner can benefit from knowing. The following is a list of tips to fully enjoy your hiking experience.

Pack Light

Limiting what you bring with you on your hike is very important. For instance, if you are only going on a two-hour hike, you really do not need to bring a huge backpack, sleeping bag, or food to feed an army. Plan ahead of time so you do not over pack.

Food: You will want to bring small snacks to nourish your body, a mix of protein and carbs will do the trick. Good items to bring are things such as granola bars, nuts, peanut butter, fruit, and bread.

If the hike is going to extend longer than a few hours, you will obviously need to bring more food. As a rule, one pound of food per day is the average consensus. Of course it also depends on the type of food you plan on bringing so be sure to carry as much energy-rich food as possible, and avoid foods filled with water.

Water: On that note, a general rule of thumb is to drink four to six ounces of water every hour or two, so bring plenty. Make sure you are fully hydrated before the hike begins as well. If you are going on a longer hike, invest in a water bladder that sits inside of a backpack, as it is much more efficient than trying to refill a water bottle continuously.

Safety: Always bring a first-aid kit, no matter what the situation is. Anything can happen; and if you need it, you’ll want to have it handy. Also, if you will be gone for several hours, a pocketknife and lighter will be helpful for using one’s survival skills, if needed.

Extras: Sunscreen and bug spray are two very important products to constantly carry with you. Being outside for a long period of time, you will need both. A few other things you may want on your hike include: sunglasses, your cell phone, a map of the area, Tylenol, a flashlight, and a camera.

Keep Your Feet Comfortable

The right pair of shoes will make your hiking experience completely different. Without caring for your feet, they will become sore, uncomfortable and blistered.

Make sure to figure out the type of shoes that are best for your hike – do you need sneakers, or hiking boots? If you will be gone for days or if there is sure to be rain and mud regular sneakers probably will not do the trick. Plan accordingly.

When Hiking Alone

If you are going on a hike alone, ALWAYS let someone know when and where you are going. In the off-chance that something happens, you will want someone to be able to find you. Try not to travel alone, especially if you plan on a multi-day hike. By traveling in pairs, you are more likely to stay safe when another is right there with you. Enjoy your time in the great outdoors!
